A quick trip out with Iain today, making use of one of the last free weekends that I have before leaving for Ireland. As usual, he came up with a bright idea for a location for us to shoot.
The former branchline to Cotgrave Colliery has been abandoned since the mine closed in 1993. The bridge across the Trent has gone but the fantastic arcing concrete viaduct across the floodplain remains…
I loved how the legs looked those of a marching army of concrete aliens.
After the pictures, we explored the town’s surprising good craft beer offerings in both The Chestnut and The Yard of Ale.
These pictures were shot with the Leica M Monochrom (the old version) and my new Zeiss Sonnar 50/1.5 which is a fantastic, versatile lens that I’m thoroughly enjoying.
An interesting location and good use of an excellent lens that I also own and enjoy on my M240. Fast, sharp and compact.

It feel like I was last person on the planet who never owned 50 mm prime lens. Very nice bridge!

For a long time I used and enjoyed 35mm rather than 50, and I think if I could only have one, it would be 35. But this 50 is superb!

These are just great. I love this kind of subject anyway, but you got spot-on contrast.
