It had been a big week…
It was the week before Christmas, we’d moved house and were living out of cardboard boxes, and my family were heading off to Poland for the festivities. There was no way I’d be able to make it out for a camp…
But, I had a brand new @durstongear X-Mid that I needed to play with – I had to find a way. So after dropping the ladies at the airport, I headed for the Burren.
Martin ( @soletrail ) had camped between Slieve Roe and Mullaghmore, on one of the few patches of grass large enough to take a tent. I walked up in the darkness, getting to camp about 10 minutes before the sun was due to rise. In the event, it didn’t; the grey clouds just got a shade or two lighter.
We had coffee and pancakes, before heading for a loop of Mullaghmore. Mullaghmore is only 180m high but rises straight up from the flat farmlands of County Clare in a series of twisted limestone cliffs. It’s a popular walk and rightly so as the landscape is truly unique. However, hikes in the Burren involve mostly looking at your own feet, as every step on the rocky ‘pavement’ could lead to you disapearing into a gryke.
It wasn’t EPIC, dramatic or all that photogenic, but the trip out was exactly what I needed…
